=== (BIOS) Boot Booster / FastBoot / Whatever === The T101MT has a shitty thing called the Boot Boster which aims to fasten BIOS POST by caching the BIOS results somewhere onto the drive (apparently a 0xEF id partition of ~50 MB). (0xEF like "EFI" ?) On some cases, it will suddently enables itself, even if you don't have the 0xEF partition. Disclaimer : I never used this "feature", i never saw the options to toggle it's activation in the BIOS, but rumors says you'll only see it if you have the damned partition. For what is worth, upon reception of this EeePC, I immediatelly erased all partitions to install my own systems from my own disks. On the T101MT platform, you won't even be able to get into the BIOS if it's activated. Then, You won't be able to get into grub2, something will make one of your parititions to boot immediately (for me, it was the windows one, which was the default btw). The consequences of the activation of this feature, is that you won't have access to the BIOS setup or the grub2 menu anymore. You won't even seen the BIOS POST or the logo. So, soonly you will look for a way to get access to the BIOS back to do something, be able to get into the grub2 menu selection. But, the following methods to get into the BIOS at boot WON'T WORK : - Press F2 or ESCAPE or DELETE during boot (the correct key is F2 for this platform) - Power down the platform, keep F2 or another one of those keys above pressed, and power up the platform - Press F2 ASAP and multiples times on power up. - Try to remove battery during the fastened BIOS boot (to cause the system to do a slow normal check boot the next time) I finnally could get access to the BIOS using this method of mine: - Get into Windows (i had no choice), and use the AsusUpdate utility to update the BIOS and have the clear CMOS option. Some users on some forums found this method: - Press Alt+F2 vigorously during boot, it will try to install another bios from an USB device `- You could be able to clear the CMOS afterwards - OR you could remove the battery while it's searching (without success) for an USB device ==> (DO NOT removing the battery while flashing the BIOS !!!) I don't know why the Boot Booster option activates itself sometimes, it's not even due to a loss of BIOS settings (the clock has always been correct). Anyway, i don't have the partition for this. P.S.: And oh, btw, the Atheros chipset seems to be a crappy one. It won't work correctly in France with some encryption-less public WiFi networks, like FreeWifi, in areas like Paris where there is multiple AP available at the same time, both on Ubuntu and Windows 7. It's a pity for an Eee PC. P.S.2: I have had two T101MT in hands, from different provider, so the problem is probably due to the specific radio chipset hardware...
